No special preparation is required. If the mole is covered by hair, you may wish to trim the area beforehand to make imaging easier, although this is not essential.
You may want to arrange a check if you notice a mole changing in size, shape or colour, a new mole that looks unusual, or a mole that itches, bleeds or crusts.
Most people can use the service, but some lesions need assessment directly by a GP or other healthcare professional. This includes lesions that are heavily bleeding, very painful, infected, difficult to image safely, or cases where you have already been advised to seek urgent medical care.
